When a wine is described as having many layers I often think of layers relative to the taste of the wine. This wine reminds me that the fragrance of the wine can also be descriptively layered. When you sniff, oak, vanilla, plum and maybe even some pepper can be detected. I was curious to learn about how this wine was made, searched the winemakers notes and found this courtesy of www.wine.com
“We fermented the grapes using only yeasts that naturally occur on the grapes and allowed the wine to gain flavors and color from extended skin contact. Each lot is aged separately for several months, and then blended to create a wine that is more complex than the individual parts. After blending, the wine spent another year and half in barrel to completely harmonize before bottling.”
Delicate and bold, this winemaker has an extraordinary talent for balancing the various varietals flavors. Surprisingly the wine is a bit absent of acidity however the body is medium and very pleasant. You may notice that I focused on the scents and textures more than the flavor of this wine. It’s a definite recommendation on flavor and a stronger Must Buy based on the talent of the winemaker on producing such a multi-dimensional wine. 5 out of 5 stars.
Added note: I set a portion of the tasting aside to sit for an hr to then taste again.
