Yorkville Cellars ’09 Malbec

The taste of this wine starts with some dark berries (boysenberry, blackberry), then transitions to some lighter cherry and lingonberries.  Surprisingly very fruit forward.  Between the taste and the fragrance, with my eyes closed I think more of spring than fall in terms of the food pairings.  I want it to taste darker and aged like a more traditional Malbec from Cahors France.  Perhaps with decanting,  this Malbec would tamper down some and mellow out.  I found it a bit topped on the lighter berries and their sweetness.

Since this wine is from California, it would be fun to set up a tasting of Malbecs side by side from France, Argentina, Chile and CA, USA.
